Planned Closure of Gorad Road 22-26 September
PLANNED CLOSURE OF GORAD ROAD, VALLEY AND PROPOSED DIVERSION – 22 SEPTEMBER TO 26 SEPTEMBER 2025
Dear Mrs Sheldon,
I am writing on behalf of National Grid Electricity Transmission, to inform you that that we need to undertake excavation works on Gorad Road, Valley. The work is required as part of our project to construct a new substation at Penrhos and to confirm the accurate location of gas pipeline.
To complete the excavation work in a safe manner, a section of Gorad Road will need to be closed to traffic from 22 September 2025 to 26 September 2025, and motorists will be diverted to use the A5025. During this period, residents will be able to access properties off Gorad Road using the diversion route, and pedestrian & cycle access will be retained.
Works are expected to last five days, with residents being able to access their properties as normal from 27 September 2025.
The closure is necessary as it is considered that historic plans do not accurately show the location of the gas pipeline under Gorad Road. It is believed that the pipeline is laid deeper than what available maps suggest. Our team will carefully excavate a section of the road to confirm the pipeline’s position before fully reinstating it.
We will ensure that the local community is fully aware of this work beforehand. A letter will be distributed to all residents living in Valley, informing them of the information above and providing our direct contact should they wish to discuss further. A plan will be included outlining the location of the works and proposed diversion route (please find a copy of this plan attached to the email). A press release will also be issued to local outlets to inform the wider community. Please also feel free to share this information with constituents and local residents yourself.
National Grid is working closely with Valley Community Council regarding this work. Drop-in events are also being organised where the local community will be able to discuss this work further and ask any questions. Local bus operators and schools have been informed about this work via the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Highways Department.
We understand that these works will cause some disruption to the local community, and sincerely apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. Our team will work to complete these activities as efficiently and safely as possible.
Should you have any questions, or would like to discuss the planned work further with our project team , please do not hesitate to contact us on email via penrhos@nationalgrid.com or by calling 0800 066 8941.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Elliot Hobbs
